BLOOD RUNS DEEPEST

Brothers, rebels, outcasts since the day they were born. Growing up poor in Northern New Mexico, half Irish, half Mexican, Jude and Billy only had each other to rely on. Both brothers eventually choose different paths to carve out their stake and flee their past.

Billy returns home a reluctant WWII hero. Jude, once a feared marshal and gunfighter, has now settled down as a family man and lawyer. Neither quite recognize the other until a kindle from Billy’s past sets their present life aflame sending the brothers on a cross country journey dodging the law, the Ku Ku Klan and taking dead aim at the ruthless Pinkerton Agency who turned their lives upside down.

Along the way, their rugged bond will be tested. Jude’s obligation to save his brother while jeopardizing his own wife and children. Billy’s guilt-ridden fear that he is inherently broken and not worth saving. This creates a sharp tension between the two brothers when they need each other most...

Michael Mulcahy is a writer born and bred in Northern New Mexico. His debut novel, Brothers in the Night, explores the many faces of external oppression - class struggle, race, violence and war - while also diving deep into the trauma bonds within - love, regret, family. All on the canvas of the American West.

He calls his literary genre Norteño Noir. Norteño referring to the fertile culture and deep history of Northern Mexico smeared across his work. Noir indicating the dark yet accessible threads in his fiction - fractured men, barren landscapes, a world less understood.

Writing in a style that is spare, visual, and unflinching - he’s drawn comparisons to Cormac McCarthy, David Joy, and Dennis Lehane.
