El símbolo tradicional navideño de Nuevo México. Hecho en Nuevo México con chiles piquín frescos, de color rojo brillante, cultivados durante siglos en la región del Valle de Mesilla, al sur de Nuevo México. Especialmente tratado para conservar su color y evitar que gotee el peligroso jugo de chile, atraiga moscas de la fruta y se enmohezca. (Se puede colgar en interiores sin problemas). La corona redonda mide de 30 a 35 cm de diámetro y cada chile piquín mide de 5 a 10 cm de largo. Dura hasta 5 años en climas secos y 2 años en climas húmedos (incluso más si se cuelga en interiores).
