Since opening their doors in 1975, El Bruno's has been known for their traditional home cooked New Mexican dishes, as well as their culinary creations. El Bruno's uses only the finest & freshest New Mexican grown chile, which gives their Red Chile it vibrant color and rich flavor. This includes the 4th generation Red Chile Sauce used in so many of the dished served over the years at their restaurant in Cuba, NM. Cooking home made New Mexican comfort food is their passion!

Bruno and Hazel Herrera were both born and raised in Cuba and were high school sweethearts. As a child, Hazel spent many hours standing on a stool in front of her grandmother's stove, learning the zesty, and sometimes fiery, recipes of her family. These are the recipes that come to your table in the restaurant today. Although the property has been in the family for almost 45 years, El Bruno's Cuba Restaurante y Cantina has been in business since 1975 and Hazel still spends her days making sure the famous quality of her food never changes. In March, 2011, Bruno & Hazel opened their new Restaurante in NW Albuquerque. Customers to El Bruno's now see Bruno & Hazel's grandchildren at the restaurant, perhaps learning old family recipes.

In Spanish, the word "Cuba" means a tank or basin or keg. It probably refers to the basin-shaped contour of the valley Cuba sits in.

Bruno's salsa

Love Bruno's salsa -- we lived in Cuba and loved to go to their restaurant. Glad we can get their salsa here in ABQ.
