Each bench is carefully and patiently constructed with notched joints with dowel rod tips to ensure much more solid stabilty and long life. Robert uses top quality wood glue, wood screws, so that the surface comes out smooth. All of the benches are belt sanded until smooth and finished with an oil stain to bring out the natrual character and highlights of the wood. The bench is then sealed with a coat of Polyurethane. Finally just as an artist would sign a painting Robert burns his initials into every peice.
"My name is Robert Anthony Contreras. I am 52 years old, and I am a Craftsman. I specialize in making Rustic Southwestern furniture mainly Benches. The wood I collect comes from demolished houses, and buildings throughout all of Northern New Mexico, so a lot of my benches are from Reclaimed wood. I also use new wood that comes from the Lumber yards here in Santa Fe. I am a Native New Mexican Hispanic, Heritage. My father Adolfo Contreras was a carpenter who built many homes throughout Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe. As I took after him I learned to build custom homes and to remodel existing homes. Over time I honed down my building skills and began to craft custom made furniture."
Robert Contreras will also do custom work for your home or office. The specifics, dimensions, materials, and costs must obviously be worked out in advance and half of the agreed uopn price must be received before the project is begun. Please call 505-795-5870 to get the process started.
